The wetplate weekend in Warwick – Guys Cliff House – isn’t just a party every time, it’s also wetplate photography with friends and models, plus an evening with barbecue and an auction for a good cause. You can find all sorts of things to bid on, related to photography or art. Last year we won a workshop with Dave – still the best investment ever. But this year I went for a wooden pinhole camera that Ray had donated. Pinhole is basically the simplest thing you can imagine – you can build one for free from an old shoebox and a piece of foil. But a camera made from nice mahogany wood with a standardised hole – which makes metering and setting the time easier – won me over. I shot a roll of film right there at Guys Cliff House and then later at the beach. I like the look. But I’m not sure it’s really a medium for film. I’ll keep moving in that direction, but probably quite differently. First ideas are there.
